A window into our world
Welcome to the 'Hunting for Dopamine' blog!
Julie and Jade share their thoughts, which are sometimes opposing with an art form as subjective as music!
The interesting link which we have found between the thrill of live music and the beneficial qualities which music brings for people who have ADHD, AUDHD, Autism, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Personality disorder, Depression or Anxiety.
We sincerely hope that you can find some inspiration and a sense of community here!

Tunes and tales from Julie and Jade
We're Julie and Jade, two women navigating life with our own unique perspectives.
Julie juggles combined type ADHD & depression, while Jade is awaiting an NHS neurodivergence assessment and lives with a severe mental health condition & OCD. Our shared love for music and our conscious decision to be open about neurodivergence and the mental health conditions which are untrendy led us here.
Expect our honest opinions!

Why this blog?
It all started with a friend's suggestion:
"Then you should write a blog about the live music you go to watch! Put it on tiktok!"
So here we are, a couple of days later, creating a website, an Instagram page and slowly navigating our way around the tiktok site, hopefully to share our experiences at gigs, mainly around Derby but occasionally in Nottingham and beyond. We'll also be weaving in our thoughts and experiences around neurodiversity and mental health.
We hope to create a non judgemental space where music fans and those interested in neurodiversity and mental health can find inspiration.
And a laugh, hopefully.

So, after Jade had been in recovery for a long while we were deciding what she'd like to do to celebrate her birthday.
She thought it might be nice to go to a gig again. But, it was a long time since she'd done that, and I'd have to go with her to support her.
So, we decided to go to Nottingham to see 'The Beat' with original member Dave Wakelin and with the late Ranking Roger's son in it!
I booked the tickets which also had a support group called 'The Skapones' at Rock City.
We broke the event into small bits so Jade wouldn't be overwhelmed.
We were just walking up to catch the bus.
We were just going to walk from the stop to Rock City.
We were just going to go in.
Get a drink, walk around with our shoes sticking to the floor.
What do you know, we're watching a gig!!
The Beat were fantastic. Dave's voice was still there. He was older, but he was loving it.
The Skapones were excellent. Jade loved the gig. We contacted the Skapones to tell them that it was the first gig Jade had been to for over a decade and they were so kind and sent her merchandise! We've never forgotten the kindness of Paul Willo.

Spread the word
If you enjoy our posts, please share them on social media!
We welcome positive engagement and hope to foster a supportive community to spread the word about how good the music scene is in Derby, currently.
While we appreciate enthusiasm, we kindly request that comments remain constructive and respectful as the ADHD brings a hidden treat for us- Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, which is absolutely awful and we don't want to experience that.
